GPU accelerated image enhancement for fiberscopes

Flexible endoscopes can be used for the 3D acquisition of complex cavities. A severe disadvantage, however, is the visible comb-shaped pattern that is caused by the endoscope's optical fibers. Therefore, the image processing group at the Fraunhofer IIS has developed a software solution to improve the image quality in a post-processing step. It is based on extraction of image information per fiber and subsequently a reconstruction of the image without artefacts.
The goal of this thesis is the implementation of a GPU-based solution which achieves real-time performance by exploiting the possibilities of modern graphics hardware.
