Interactive Volume Visualization on Consumer Graphics Hardware

(01.12.1999 - 31.12.2004)

Volume visualization has so far been restricted to expensive graphics workstations or special-purpose hardware. New GPUs of modern graphics cards are a good platform for volume rendering research due to their high performance and flexibility. Modern volume rendering methods are using the programmable graphics pipeline where parts of the former fixed-function-pipeline can be replaced by small programs. This results in higher performace and increased image quality.

The applications of our volume rendering methods are manifold. Among them are medicine, biology, chemistry, flow visualization etc.
